Pulses consisting of a mixture of methane and oxygen are sent into the catalyst at 700oC. The amount of C2 evolved is measured and plotted versus the amount of oxygen in the pulses. The ability of catalysts to react with surface or gas phase oxygen can be evaluated in this manner.Catal. Today 6, 511 (1990)
